Despite many of us suffering from some form of emotional concerns, there is still a massive stigma (or rather a taboo) around seeking help for mental health issues.

According to the World Health Organization:

  • 7.5 per cent of the Indian population suffers from some form of mental disorder

  • Mental illnesses constitute 1/6 of all health-related disorders and India accounted for nearly 15% of the global mental, neurological and substance abuse disorder burden

  • One in four people in the world will be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives

  • Around 450 million people currently suffer from such conditions, placing mental disorders among the leading causes of ill-health and disability worldwide

  • According to further research by WHO, economic loss in India due to mental health conditions will amount to an estimated $1.3 trillion between 2012 and 2030.

  • 9.8 million teenagers in the age group 13-17 years suffer depression and other mental health disorders and are “in need of active intervention”

  • The treatment gap, which is defined as the prevalence of mental illnesses and the proportion of clients that get treatment, is over 70 per cent

  • For instance, out of 936,000 doctors in India, there are only roughly 4,500 psychiatrists to serve a population of 1.3 billion

Treatments are available, but nearly two-thirds of people with a known mental disorder never seek help from a health professional. Stigma, discrimination and neglect prevent care and treatment from reaching people with mental disorders, says the World Health Organization (WHO). Where there is neglect, there is little or no understanding. Where there is no understanding, there is neglect.

We are here to bridge the gap. Our team of certified clinical psychologists and counsellors provide specialized guidance on a variety of topics, in a safe and non-judgemental environment.

Our counselling services include:

Adolescent counselling : Transiting from a child to an adult comes with a lot of entropy – changes in self (physical, mental, emotional), goals, expectations, searching for self-identity, environment, etc. Also, every stage of life presents a new challenge – be it work-life balance, relationships, career path, etc. At times it may get overwhelming dealing with various challenges, leading to varied psychological and emotional issues ranging from mid level stress to onset depression. At Anantam, we specialize in dealing with all concerns pertaining to adolescents.

Individual/Adult counselling : Individual counselling involves one-on-one interaction between the client and counsellor/therapist. At Anantam, we equip the client with tools to cope with stress, interpersonal issues, grief, anxiety, mood disturbances, trauma, anger issues, low self-confidence and low self-esteem etc. through the process of counseling. In this collaborative process, we guide the client towards increasing their self-awareness, encouraging self-exploration, identifying boundaries, enhancing communication skills and improving the use of healthy coping skills leading to self-empowerment.

Relationship counselling : A relationship can take many forms – be it friendship, dating couple or married couple. At Anantam, we address various concerns/conflicts pertaining to any form of relationship, customise sessions according to your need and guide you in developing communication and conflict resolution skills. We facilitate couples of all types to explore, recognize, and resolve conflicts, in an effort to improve their relationships and interactions.

Behavioural counselling: Behavioral therapy is an umbrella term for types of therapy that seeks to identify and help change potentially self-destructive or unhealthy behaviors. It functions on the idea that all behaviors are learned and that unhealthy/undesirable   behaviours can be changed to healthy/desirable behaviours. We at Anantam analyse the client’s behaviour, and facilitate the client to learn new, positive behaviours to override or minimise the unwanted behaviour. We at Anantam use REBT, CBT, techniques of Behaviour Modification and an eclectic approach to bring about a change in client’s behaviour.

Individuals of all age groups and in different contexts, can benefit from behavioural therapy, from improving a child’s behaviour to motivating employees to work more efficiently etc. Behavioural therapy is also used as an intervention in a number of psychological and emotional concerns such as: stress, anxiety, phobias (irrational fears), OCD, mood disturbances, Hyperactivity, anger issues etc.

Group counselling : Group Counseling is a process where a collection of clients with similar issues or concerns meet as a group with one or more therapists, to discuss those issues, and to learn about and share information and solutions about those issues. In such cases, we at Anantam encourage our clients to participate in group counselling. When a group unites with a similar goal in mind there is a sense of belonging during the sessions. We as facilitators focus on promoting interpersonal learning amongst group members and providing feedback so that each client may have a deeper understanding of their own concerns. Members of the group often serve as models if they have achieved some success in bringing about a positive change in their lives.

Family counselling : Family counselling involves all members of the family. We conduct sessions to guide families in dealing with important issues that may interfere with the functioning of the family and the home environment. At Anantam, our psychologists understand the concern from every members’ POV, and offer constructive guidance that leads to a happy, healthy family. Our goal is to assist family members improve communication, solve family issues, understand and handle special family situations (eg. death, serious physical or mental illness, or child and adolescent issues), and create a better functioning home environment.

Parenting: Parenting is the process of raising children and providing them with protection and care in order to ensure their healthy development into adulthood. A high-quality parent-child relationship is critical for healthy development, preparing children for life as productive adults and transmitting cultural values.

We all want to be the best parents we can be for our children. At times it gets confusing and overwhelming because of loads of advice coming our way regarding the right way to raise a child. Overload of different information coming our way from parents, extended family, friends, internet, books etc. can be very confusing.

We need to remember, as each child is unique, there is no one right/perfect way to raise a child. Each stage of life presents new challenges both to the child and the parent. The teen years pose some of the most difficult challenges for families. Adolescents may feel that no one can understand their feelings, especially parents and parents feel that teens are not making the efforts to understand their point of view, resulting in conflicts in the family.

At Anantam, we understand your point of view objectively and guide you in dealing with all concerns pertaining to the Parent-child relationship at different stages of life.
